Week 8 Special Teams Goals Above Average Rankings

The number one and two teams this week remain the same and continue to separate from the field. The New Jersey Devils continue to convert on over 34% of their man advantages, giving them a commanding 14.5 power play goals above average. With 87 power plays, the Devils have had the second most opportunities in the league, creating a dominating scoring machine, racking up 30 goals, seven more than Ottawa and Winnipeg (tied for second with 23). The Islanders, sitting in last in the NHL in power play goals (9) and goals above average (-6.5), have had 70 chances with the man advantage, converting a measly 13% into goals.

The Bruins, who fired coach Jim Montgomery less than two weeks ago, are an anemic -4.5 power play goals above average while converting 11.7% of their chances. Boston is the beneficiary of a whopping 94 power plays, producing only 11 goals. The Blues, who hired Montgomery on November 24th, are tied for last with the Islanders in goals with the advantage.
